The Blogger Recognition Award

blogger-award

So here’s a thing – I’ve only had my little spot on the web for a few months now, but I’ve been nominated for the Blogger’s Recognition Award by two lovely people – Sophie & Chiara – please go check these girls out, I love reading their blogs and I’m so touched by their nominations. Thank you again!

The rules of The Blogger Recognition Award are:

1. Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog
2. Write a post to show your award
3. Give a brief story of how your blog started
4. Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers
5. Select 15 other bloggers for this award
6. Comment on each blog to let them know you nominated them and link to the post you created.

How it all started

Ok so, this blog was pretty much born out of a dark place – sounds gloomy doesn’t it? Actually it’s a nice story! I’ve suffered with mental illness for many years now and my counsellor at the time recommended sharing my story/thoughts via a blog; I’d be helping other people & it’d be a sanctuary for me to go to. Hence the name! Plus I’ve always loved writing, so it felt like something I could definitely get in to.

She wasn’t wrong, and I’ll say it again – this blog has pretty much saved my bacon really. The blogging community is so friendly and humble, and I’ve been overwhelmed by the support/engagement from other bloggers. I’m constantly surprised that anybody reads what I write because I honestly feel like I babble on like a babbling babbler at times. But, yes! This is something I’m in love with and it’s definitely been a confidence booster – it’s changed my life.

Advice

Having only had my blog for just over three months, I’m not sure I’m qualified to be dishing out advice; but what I will say & echoing what Sophie said is, write about what you know. Always. It’s something I’ve always been told, and I do find when I write about something I know or love, it comes across more passionate. ‘Don’t half-ass anything, always use your full ass’.

Secondly, & something I always need to remind myself of; don’t compare yourself to other people. Remember to always be you, be authentic, be original, and don’t spend your time comparing your blog to other people’s; you’ll lose yourself. ‘No one is you and that is your power’. Yep, I love me a quote.
